Awareness Month -- May 2024 Posted or Updated on 8 May 2024

Tourette’s Awareness Month 2024 presents an opportunity for all of us to come together, educate ourselves, and foster empathy and understanding for individuals living with Tourette syndrome. By actively participating in this important initiative, we can challenge stigmas, dispel misconceptions, and create a more inclusive and supportive environment for those affected by Tourette syndrome.

Whether you choose to educate yourself, share accurate information, organize events and workshops, support Tourette syndrome associations, or practice inclusion and empathy in your daily life, every effort counts. Together, let us amplify the voices of the Tourette syndrome community, celebrate their strengths and achievements, and advocate for their needs.

Tourette’s Awareness Month 2024 is a reminder that through education, understanding, and acceptance, we can build a society that values and embraces the diversity of all its members. Let us stand united in our commitment to fostering inclusivity, compassion, and support for individuals with Tourette syndrome, not just during this month but throughout the year.

Tics are the main symptom of Tourette's syndrome. They usually appear in childhood between the ages of 2 and 14 (around 6 years is the average).

People with Tourette's syndrome have a combination of physical and vocal tics.

Examples of physical tics include:

  • blinking
  • eye rolling
  • grimacing
  • shoulder shrugging
  • jerking of the head or limbs
  • jumping
  • twirling
  • touching objects and other people
